OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification means a finished textile product has been tested against more than 100 substance categories: pesticide residue, heavy metals including lead and cadmium, formaldehyde, pH value, phthalates, banned azo colorants, colorfast dyes, and flame retardants among them. For OEKO-TEX certified baby clothes, the relevant product class is Product Class I, the most stringent tier of the standard, which covers items worn against the skin of babies and children up to age 3. Every component of a Product Class I garment must pass the test (fabric, thread, buttons, zippers, prints), not just the outer fabric.

The Environmental Working Group does not rate or certify clothing. There is no EWG Skin Deep score for a onesie, a bodysuit, or a romper. When you are shopping for baby clothes and want a third-party certification signal, the relevant standard to look for is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (or GOTS for organic fiber sourcing). NonToxicFinder is not affiliated with the Environmental Working Group.

The five picks below carry confirmed OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification as of September 2026. Certificate numbers are included where publicly disclosed: you can verify any of them independently at oeko-tex.com using the Label Check tool. Prices and availability were verified as of September 20, 2026. Gerber inventory was scarce at time of research (3 to 4 units); check current Amazon listings before purchasing.

What OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certifies in Baby Clothes

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is a product testing standard, not an organic farming or supply chain standard. It tests the finished garment (whatever has gone into that fabric, including dyeing, finishing, printing, and any coatings) against a list of 100+ substance limits. The list is updated annually. It currently includes:

  • Pesticide residues (organochlorine and organophosphorus pesticides, among others)
  • Heavy metals: lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury, and others
  • Formaldehyde (used as a wrinkle-resistant finish in some textiles)
  • pH value (skin-compatible range, especially relevant for items in prolonged contact with infant skin)
  • Phthalates (softeners used in some synthetic prints and coatings)
  • Banned azo dyes (which can release carcinogenic aromatic amines)
  • Flame retardants of concern
  • Colorfast dyes (rubbing and perspiration fastness)

Product Class I is the most stringent class. It applies to all articles intended for babies and toddlers up to approximately 3 years of age: clothing, bedding, and accessories that come into prolonged contact with skin. Substance limits for Class I are set lower than for adult clothing (Class II) or decorative items (Classes III and IV).

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifies what was in the finished fabric at the time of testing. It does not certify organic fiber origin, prohibit polyurethane foam, or guarantee that no potentially harmful substance could ever be present. It is a testing standard: the product met the substance limits at the time of certification. Certifications are also product-specific: a brand can have some OEKO-TEX certified items and some that are not. When purchasing, verify that the specific ASIN you are buying carries the certification, not just the brand generally.

For a comparison of how OEKO-TEX Standard 100 relates to GOTS, the organic textile standard, see the GOTS vs. GREENGUARD Gold guide on this site, which explains how these standards differ in scope and what each one actually verifies.

Gerber Organic Cotton Onesies 3-Pack, Girls 0-3M (ASIN B07H7D5NDZ, ~$12)

The Gerber girls 0-3M onesies are certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Product Class I, the most stringent class for products worn against baby skin up to age 3 (certificate 08.HIN.60591, Hohenstein HTTI). The fabric is organic cotton. The 3-pack format covers the rotation typical for the newborn stage when babies go through multiple outfits daily and quickly outgrow sizes.

Inventory was 3 units as of September 20, 2026. Stock at this level can shift quickly; check the Amazon listing before ordering, particularly for multiple-pack purchases. Certificate 08.HIN.60591 is verifiable at oeko-tex.com using the Label Check tool.

Gerber Organic Cotton Onesies 3-Pack, Boys (ASIN B07L1G5P5G, ~$13)

The boys colorway from the same Gerber Onesies line, certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Product Class I under the same certificate (08.HIN.60591, Hohenstein HTTI). Organic cotton, 3-pack. The product class, the certifying body, and the certificate number are identical to the girls version: two colorways from the same certified Gerber line.

Inventory was 4 units as of September 20, 2026. If both colorways are of interest, check current availability before committing to one, as stock at this level can shift within hours of a sustained traffic spike.

Carter's Little Planet Long Sleeve Bodysuits 3-Pack, 6M (ASIN B09NNZ2MJ3, ~$17)

Carter's Little Planet is the organic-focused sub-line within the Carter's brand. This 3-pack of long-sleeve bodysuits in size 6M is certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (certificate 20.HUS.39362, Hohenstein). The certificate number is publicly verifiable at oeko-tex.com. Organic cotton fabric. With 30 units confirmed in stock at time of research, this is the most reliably available pick in this group and the strongest value for families building out a 6-month wardrobe.

Carter's cert 20.HUS.39362 covers the Little Planet certified line and is documented in Carter's ESG reporting. The long-sleeve format suits the mid-infant range when layering becomes practical and the short onesie rotation expands. Verify that the specific ASIN B09NNZ2MJ3 carries the certification when purchasing rather than relying on the Carter's brand broadly.

Hanna Andersson Bodysuit + Bloomer Wiggle Set (ASIN B0GWNV3RSM, ~$27)

This Hanna Andersson infant set carries two certifications: OEKO-TEX Standard 100 for textile substance testing and GOTS for organic cotton fiber sourcing. Amazon product descriptions confirm both certifications. Hanna Andersson states that 94% of its seasonal collection is certified under both programs. The brand does not publicly disclose individual OEKO-TEX certificate numbers, so the certification is confirmed through product descriptions and brand materials rather than a publicly searchable cert number at oeko-tex.com.

For parents who want both the substance-testing signal of OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and the organic fiber sourcing documentation of GOTS, this set covers both in one item. The bodysuit and bloomer are sold as a set. Verify current availability at the Amazon listing before purchasing.

Kyte BABY Dual Zipper Romper, Bamboo-Rayon, 3-6M Pistachio (ASIN B0CN3CH4WH, ~$38)

Kyte BABY's rompers are made from bamboo-rayon, not cotton. The fabric is rayon made from bamboo, notable for softness and lightweight feel. The brand certifies its fabrics to OEKO-TEX Standard 100 annually: the brand's own website states that fabrics are "tested and certified every single year by OEKO-TEX." Kyte BABY does not publicly disclose individual certificate numbers, so this certification is confirmed through brand materials and the annual testing commitment.

The dual-zipper design allows diaper access from either direction, a practical distinction from single-direction zippers on nighttime changes where a fully unzipped romper in a dark room is inconvenient. The 3-6M sizing bridges the gap between newborn sizes and the wider availability of 6-month options. At $37.99 this is the most expensive pick in the group; the annually re-confirmed testing is the distinguishing certification feature.

For parents building a broader registry and researching all certifications relevant to infant products, the non-toxic baby registry guide on this site covers a wider range of categories beyond clothing. How to Verify an OEKO-TEX Certificate

Two certificate numbers in this article are publicly verifiable. To check them:

  1. Go to oeko-tex.com Label Check
  2. Enter the certificate number exactly as shown (the search is case-sensitive)
  3. The result shows the certificate holder, the standard it was issued under, and its validity period
  • Gerber cert 08.HIN.60591 (Hohenstein HTTI): covers the Onesies brand bodysuit line, Product Class I
  • Carter's cert 20.HUS.39362 (Hohenstein): covers the Little Planet certified line

When a brand does not disclose a certificate number (as with Kyte BABY and Hanna Andersson), the certification may still be genuine. Some brands hold their certification documentation internally and confirm it through product descriptions rather than publishing a searchable number. A verifiable cert number is the highest-confidence signal available to a consumer without contacting the brand directly; its absence is not automatically a red flag, but its presence is the easiest way to confirm.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 vs. GOTS

These two standards address different questions. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 asks: does this finished product, as it exists now, contain substance levels within the defined limits? GOTS asks: was the fiber grown organically, and were those practices maintained through processing and manufacturing?

A product can carry OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification without being organic: many conventional cotton garments are OEKO-TEX tested. A product can be GOTS certified without separately testing the finished product under OEKO-TEX's substance list. The Hanna Andersson set above carries both, which is the "dual-certified" case in this article. L'ovedbaby is a GOTS-certified brand that chose not to pursue OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, a deliberate brand decision, not an indication of a quality problem.
