If you searched for a MADE SAFE certified baby massage oil, you probably saw the mark on a baby wash or a lotion and wondered whether it also covers oils. It does, for at least one product you can buy today: EllaOla’s 100% Organic Baby Massage Oil. This spotlight covers that one oil in detail rather than ranking several, because it is the only MADE SAFE® certified baby massage oil we could verify in the registry.

What MADE SAFE® Screens, and What It Does Not

MADE SAFE® is a certification from the nonprofit Nontoxic Certified. It screens every ingredient in a formula against its Banned/Restricted list of chemicals. A product with one flagged ingredient does not qualify. For the full explanation, see our guide to what MADE SAFE certified means.

The mark is an ingredient screen. It does not test how well an oil works, it does not predict how an individual baby’s skin will respond, and it is not a safety guarantee. It is also separate from EWG VERIFIED®. EWG is an independent nonprofit, and we are not affiliated with it. No EWG rating is used for this product; MADE SAFE® is the only basis we state.

EllaOla 100% Organic Baby Massage Oil

The MADE SAFE® registry lists the product as “100% Organic Baby Massage Oil” from EllaOla, in the Oils category, and says it is certified in all currently available sizes and packaging options. You can read the entry yourself in the MADE SAFE registry.

The registry page does not list ingredients or sizes, so those come from the maker’s retail listings. EllaOla describes the oil as a blend of six USDA certified organic oils: sunflower seed, grape seed, jojoba seed, avocado, coconut, and argan kernel. Retail listings also describe it as made without fragrance, essential oils, or parabens. Check the bottle in your hands, since formulas can change.

Who This Oil Suits, and Who Should Look Elsewhere

It suits parents who want a baby massage oil with a short, readable ingredient list and a third-party ingredient screen they can check in a public registry. A blend of six plant oils is simple to read, and with no added fragrance listed the label is quick to scan.

At about $6 per ounce it is a premium purchase. If price is the main concern, this is not the cheapest way to buy a baby oil, and it is worth weighing against how often you will use it. Every oil on the list here is a food-derived plant oil, so if your family has a nut or seed sensitivity, review the ingredient list with your pediatrician before using it. As with any new product, many parents try a small amount on a small patch of skin first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MADE SAFE® the same as EWG VERIFIED®?
No. They are separate programs run by separate nonprofits with different screening lists. We are not affiliated with EWG or with MADE SAFE®.

Does the certification cover every size?
The registry entry says the oil is certified in all currently available sizes and packaging options. We checked the 5 fl oz bottle for price.

Does MADE SAFE® mean this oil is safe for every baby?
No. The mark screens ingredients against a banned and restricted list. It is not a safety guarantee or a medical statement, and it says nothing about how an individual baby’s skin will react.

Why only one product?
We only profile products with their own MADE SAFE® registry entry. This is the one baby massage oil we could verify, so we did not add filler.
