If you searched for a MADE SAFE certified baby bath soak, you probably saw the mark on a baby wash and wondered whether it also covers things you add to the tub. For at least one product it does: EllaOla’s Baby Bath Soak. This spotlight covers that one soak in detail rather than ranking several, because it is the only MADE SAFE® certified baby bath soak we could verify in the registry.

What MADE SAFE® Screens, and What It Does Not

MADE SAFE® is a certification from the nonprofit Nontoxic Certified. It screens every ingredient in a formula against its Banned/Restricted list of chemicals. A product with one flagged ingredient does not qualify. For the full explanation, see our guide to what MADE SAFE certified means.

The mark is an ingredient screen. It does not test how well a soak works, it does not predict how an individual baby’s skin will respond, and it is not a safety guarantee. It is also separate from EWG VERIFIED®. EWG is an independent nonprofit, and we are not affiliated with it. No EWG rating is used for this product; MADE SAFE® is the only basis we state.

EllaOla Baby Bath Soak

The MADE SAFE® registry lists the product as “Baby Bath Soak” from EllaOla, in the Salts + Soaks category, and says it is certified in all currently available sizes and packaging options. You can read the entry yourself in the MADE SAFE registry.

The registry page does not list ingredients, so those come from retail listings of the maker’s product. They describe a muslin soak packet made with colloidal oatmeal, coconut, black tea leaf extract, a prebiotic (alpha-glucan oligosaccharide) and Dead Sea salt, with no added fragrance. Amazon titles the listings “Oatmeal Bath Soak,” which is the retailer’s wording; we name the product as the registry does. Check the packet in your hands, since formulas can change.

Certification basis: MADE SAFE®, from the registry entry above

Price at check time: $22.00 for 4 soaks, about $5.50 per soak (Subscribe & Save listed at $19.80); $6.00 for a single soak

Who It Suits, and Who Should Look Elsewhere

It suits parents who want a baby bath add-in with a short ingredient list and a third-party ingredient screen they can check in a public registry. Each soak is a single-use packet, so there is nothing to measure out.

At about $5.50 to $6 per bath it is a premium purchase, and it is worth weighing against how often you would use it. The ingredients include oat and coconut, so if your family has an allergy or sensitivity, review the list with your pediatrician before using it. As with any new product, many parents try a small amount on a small patch of skin first.

Looking for something for your own tub? Our MADE SAFE® bath salts spotlight covers an adult-size option, which is a different product with its own registry entry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MADE SAFE® the same as EWG VERIFIED®?
No. They are separate programs run by separate nonprofits with different screening lists. We are not affiliated with EWG or with MADE SAFE®.

Does the certification cover every size?
The registry entry says the soak is certified in all currently available sizes and packaging options. We checked the 4-soak and 1-soak listings for price.

Does MADE SAFE® mean this soak is safe for every baby?
No. The mark screens ingredients against a banned and restricted list. It is not a safety guarantee or a medical statement, and it says nothing about how an individual baby’s skin will react.

Does it treat eczema or any skin condition?
We make no such claim. MADE SAFE® is an ingredient screen, not a treatment claim. If your baby has a skin condition, ask your pediatrician.
