Searching for a non-toxic makeup remover often produces a mix of cleansing oils, face washes and old database records. The useful check is narrower: match the exact product name and ingredient list to a current EWG record, then confirm the same item is available.
Two Amazon products met that bar with different levels of confidence. ATTITUDE has a record updated in February 2026 and a matching current manufacturer formula. Qēt Botanicals has a matching named product, but its EWG record was last updated in April 2016, so the delivered label deserves an extra check.
Exact EWG records and retail matches
| Product | EWG status | Formula check |
|---|---|---|
| ATTITUDE Oceanly Cleansing Oil, Squalane / Castor Oil | EWG VERIFIED®; updated Feb. 2026 | Current manufacturer list matches the nine ingredients in EWG's record |
| Qēt Botanicals Eye Makeup Remover | EWG VERIFIED®; updated Apr. 2016 | Exact product name matches; compare the current package with EWG's five-ingredient list |
Amazon availability was checked September 20, 2026. EWG and product formulas can change.
ATTITUDE Oceanly Cleansing Oil
EWG's exact ATTITUDE record carries the EWG VERIFIED® mark and was updated in February 2026. Its ingredient list matches ATTITUDE's current cleansing-oil page: caprylic/capric triglyceride, grapeseed oil, sorbeth-30 tetraoleate, sweet almond oil, castor oil, squalane, hydrogenated olive oil unsaponifiables, sunflower seed oil and tocopherol.
The selected Amazon item is the unscented 3.4-fluid-ounce cleansing oil. EWG VERIFIED® concerns the formula and disclosure criteria. It does not establish how quickly the oil will remove a particular waterproof mascara or whether it will suit an individual's skin.

Qēt Botanicals Eye Makeup Remover
EWG's Qēt Botanicals record lists safflower seed oil, grapeseed oil, cranberry seed oil, lavender flower oil and tocopherol. EWG displays the product as EWG VERIFIED®, but the record's last-update date is April 2016.
Amazon listed ASIN B00MFVVCLS in stock under the same product name when checked. An exact name is useful but not enough to establish that a decade-old formula has never changed. Compare all five ingredients with the delivered package. If the list differs, do not transfer the old record's status to the new formula.

A verified record is not a performance test
EWG says products carrying its mark meet the program's criteria for ingredient disclosure and hazard screening. The mark does not compare cleansing speed, residue, eye sting or waterproof-makeup removal. Those are use and performance questions.
Oil-based removers can dissolve long-wear products, but the formula and directions still vary. Patch testing cannot guarantee a reaction-free experience, and people with an almond allergy should note the sweet almond oil in the ATTITUDE formula.
Why several recognizable products were excluded
True Botanicals Calm Ginger Turmeric Cleansing Balm has a Skin Deep product record. Its current manufacturer ingredient list, however, differs materially from the list on that record. We did not use the older record as proof for the current retail formula.
Vika's Essentials was another candidate, but Amazon did not show an in-stock offer when checked. Other search results either did not return the exact EWG-listed product or used a nearby name without enough formula evidence.
A three-step label check
- Match the entire product name, scent and size to the database record.
- Compare the full ingredient list in order. A changed list can signal a reformulation.
- Check the record's update date and current certification designation.
For the makeup left on lashes, our mascara guide uses exact product records. The foundation guide applies the same formula-matching rule to complexion products.
Frequently asked questions
Does EWG VERIFIED® mean a remover works on waterproof makeup?
No. The mark is not a performance test.
Why does the record date matter?
A retailer may keep a similar product name after a formula changes. Older records need a closer ingredient comparison.
Why is True Botanicals excluded?
The current manufacturer formula does not exactly match the ingredient list on EWG's record, so this article does not transfer the record to the current retail item.
