“MADE SAFE certified lip balm” is a narrower search than “non-toxic lip balm.” MADE SAFE® is its own program, run by a different nonprofit than EWG, with its own ingredient screening list. If you spotted the MADE SAFE® seal and want to know which lip balm actually carries it, this page profiles the one we could verify: Kosmatology Orange Sweetness Lip Balm, sold on Amazon as a four-pack.

What MADE SAFE® Actually Screens For

MADE SAFE® is a nonprofit ingredient-screening certification from Nontoxic Certified. Ingredients in a formulation are reviewed against its Banned/Restricted list of substances, which flags concerns such as carcinogenicity, endocrine disruption and environmental persistence. A product that fails the screen does not qualify.

That screen is not a safety guarantee, and MADE SAFE® does not present it as one. It does not test how a lip balm feels or performs, or how any one person’s skin will respond. For a fuller explanation, read our guide to what MADE SAFE certified actually means.

The Current Pool: Thin by Design

This is a spotlight, not a ranked list. We checked the certifier’s directory and found only two lip balm families we could confirm and buy right now: Kosmatology and Annmarie. Rather than pad the page with lip balms that do not carry the mark, we profile the Kosmatology one in detail.

Kosmatology Orange Sweetness Lip Balm

MADE SAFE’s own certifier record lists Kosmatology Lip Balm as MADE SAFE® certified in all currently available sizes and packaging options, across five flavors. Orange Sweetness (Orange + Vanilla) is one of them. You can read the entry on the MADE SAFE product record for Kosmatology Lip Balm.

Two limits are worth knowing. The record does not name the Amazon listing or the four-pack; the pack is a retail detail from the Amazon listing, and the certification is for the product family. The record also shows no ingredient list or certification date, so this page leaves ingredients out. MADE SAFE® is the only certification basis we state. There is no EWG VERIFIED® status or EWG Skin Deep® score cited here.

Certification: MADE SAFE®, confirmed on the certifier’s own record for the product family
Version we checked: Orange Sweetness, Color Orange, 1 Count (Pack of 4), US Amazon listing
Price and stock: $24.00 for the four-pack ($6.00 per balm) and in stock as of October 16, 2026. Prices change, so check the listing before you order

Who it suits: shoppers who specifically want the MADE SAFE® seal on a lip balm and like an orange-and-vanilla flavor, with a few spares for coat pockets and bags. Who it does not: anyone who wants an unscented balm, since the certifier lists five flavors and plain unscented is not among them.

Also Checked: Annmarie Antioxidant Lip Balm

The certifier also lists Annmarie Antioxidant Lip Balm as MADE SAFE® certified, on its product record for Annmarie Antioxidant Lip Balm. We mention it for context and do not rank or link it here, because we could not confirm which retail pack matches the record.

MADE SAFE® vs. EWG VERIFIED® Lip Balms

MADE SAFE® is a different certifying body from EWG, and a product can carry one mark, both or neither. If you would rather shop by EWG’s program, our EWG VERIFIED® lip balm guide covers lip balms on that basis. The same certifier also appears in our MADE SAFE certified baby wash spotlight, a different product type.

How to Check Any Lip Balm Yourself

Search the product or brand name in the MADE SAFE® product directory at index.madeworks.com. Look for the exact product name, the scents or sizes the record covers, and whether the record matches the pack you are about to buy. If a listing claims the seal but the directory has no entry, treat the claim as unconfirmed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MADE SAFE® the same as EWG VERIFIED®?
No. They are separate programs from separate nonprofits with different screening lists. We are not affiliated with either.

Does MADE SAFE® mean a lip balm is safe for kids?
No. The mark reflects an ingredient screen, not a safety guarantee, and we make no health or safety claims about any product.

Does the certifier list the four-pack?
The certifier lists the Kosmatology Lip Balm family in all currently available sizes and packaging options. It does not name this Amazon listing, so the four-pack is a retail detail.

Why only one product?
Only one MADE SAFE® lip balm cleared our identity and availability checks, so we profile it instead of ranking products that do not qualify.

Are other Kosmatology flavors covered?
The certifier record lists five flavors, Orange Sweetness among them. An unscented version is not on that list.
